During a stakeholder engagement meeting held at Cephas Inn hotel in Makanga, Kabale municipality, UMEME officials revealed that the power outage in Kabale district will persist until December, despite planned demonstrations by residents. Ian Namanya, Western Regional Operations Manager, stated that the issue cannot be resolved until the completion of the Kabale substation in Karukara, Hamurwa town council, Rubanda district.

Namanya assured residents that once the substation is finished, the power outage problem will be permanently solved. He urged residents to be patient until December this year.

Peter Kiyingi, Senior Communications Officer at UMEME, acknowledged the dependence of residents on electricity for their daily income. He assured the public that UMEME is committed to working with them to ensure satisfaction once the Kabale substation is completed.

The meeting comes ahead of the planned “March to UMEME office Kabale” demonstration on August 9, 2024, where residents will express their dissatisfaction with electricity services.”
