Three Men are Under Arrest in Kigezi Region Over Murder and Aggravated Robbery of a Motorcyclist.
The territorial police in Rukungiri have two suspects in custody allegedly for the murder of a 20 years old boda boda rider one Martin Twebaze alias Kagame a resident of Iterero cell Kacence parish Nyakishenyi sub county Rukungiri district and robbery of his motorcycle.
The suspects are;Chrysostom Byomugabe and,Amon Asimwe plus others still at large. It’s alleged that on 30/7/2024 at around 6 : 30 pm at Kampala Omukiragiro stage for bodaboda, Kacence parish Nyakishenyi sub-county, Rukungiri district, suspect Chrysostom Byomugabe hired Martin Twebaze alias Kagame( now deceased) to transport him on motorcycle Reg No. UGE 705 U Bajaj boxer red in colour to Rubanda district at a fare of ugx. 60.000/- then the rider informed a fellow boda boda rider identified as Kato Benson that he was coming back the following day of 31/07/2024.
That on their way to Rubanda,Chrysostom Byomugabe cordinated with Amon Asiimwe and another who waited for them at Echuya forest reserve along Kabale – Kisoro road. When the deceased failed to report back to Nyakishenyi on 31/7/2024 as he had promised, fellow bodaboda riders raised some suspicion. They rang on the (deceased’s) phone number 0783194569 and it wasn’t available on the network. The same bodaboda riders informed their chairman Martin Nuwahereza who also reported a case of disappearance of Martin Twebaze Kagame at police on 02/8/2024 at 3 : 30 pm together with his motorcycle Reg No.705U Bajaj boxer .
According to the Kigezi regional Police Spokesperson Assistant Supretendant of Police Elly Maate said that, A case of disappearance was registered, now investigated as murder and aggravated Robbery vide CRB 923/2024. The deceased’s sim card; 0783194569 was tracked and it showed that a common caller of 0785342485, the print out brought in tel. 0764271122 in the names of Isaac Tuyisenge who was arrested from Kisoro town in Kisoro district. He was found in possession of the deceased’s motorcycle.
Then led to the arrest of Chrysostom Byomugabe who revealed that Martin Twebaze Kagame was murdered at Echuya forest reserve and the body dumped in the same forest. Scene of crime was visited and examined by regional soco and other staff from the districts of Rukungiri and Rubanda. Am exhibit of an axe was recovered at the crime scene and exhibited, statements were recorded from witnesses and postmortem done. As inquiries are at hand.
