The Gold in Cohort Love.

In the modern times, life is becoming more self-centered. Brotherly concern is waning out as the economic muscle demands more than the social one. Relatives today barely share supper on the same tray making it a life of one man for himself and … . The less privileged have been exposed to a more desperate life, lowly relatives inclusive which justifies the new child headed family. It’s normal that anyone called a child is vulnerable and abnormal that a child heads a family and that is what some Ugandan poet calls ‘the new normal,’ a normal of irregularities.

Friends are just shadows of true friendship and all they offer is manipulation save a handful that don’t take the character of Job’s friends plus his wife. Nevertheless, before we despair, there’s a new nourishment to the social muscle;the cohort love. There’s a people we went in the same grazing fields, same school, graduated together and a people we work together.

These cohorts make a new family of trust and solidarity. Belonging to any of these functioning cohorts guarantees full life to the member who at any point of life becomes a beneficiary. Look at what the old boys of St. Adrian’s seminary saved their fellow, one Kamugisha.

Post his pre University education, Kamugisha left Kabale for Mbarara in a bid to find something to make ends meet. Unfortunately, Kamugisha met goons who jeopardized his innocent search for a job. He was robbed of all his belongings and exposed to toxic psychosis.

Kamugisha ran amok and started to survive a filthy street life. Why do the innocent suffer at the hands of the guilty? Some day, an old boy of St. Adrian’s seminary walked along the pavement in Mbarara city and recognized Kamugisha.

Maniriho could not believe the Kamugisha who used to hit the books and burnt the midnight oil was in such a miserable state. There was need for immediate action to see Kamugisha heal all his mental and physical wounds. Maniriho captured a clip and shared with fellow cohorts in their Whatsapp forum.

A pragmatic action was henceforth taken with an immediate contribution sheet to collect monetary and material resources to see Kamugisha come out of such a dark life. In a blink of an eye, funds were raised, Kamugisha was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and given all medical therapies.

In a fortnight, Kamugisha had recuperated and saw a bright world again. The parents joined the rescue struggle of their son when his old boys were half way struggling to revitalize his life.
