The Director Office of the Director Public Prosecution Justice Jane Francis Abodo has Called for More State Prosecuters to Ease Service Delivery in Kigezi Region.
The Director of the Office of Director Public Prosecution, ODPP Her Lordship Justice Jane Francis Abodo, has called for more Prosecuter as a way of extending Justice rather than having Four (4) Judicial Offices served by one (1) Prosecuter saying that it’s unfair for the People of the Republic of Uganda.
Justice Abodo made the call today at the Kabale District Headquarters at Makanga Hill Central Division Kabale Municipality during the Regional Open Baraza for Kigezi region Organized by the Office of Director Public Prosecution, ODPP in partial fulfillment of their mission of Managing and Prosecuting Crimes in the Judicial Offices for a crime free society, following a concern raised by the Regional Police Commander of Kigezi region Assistant Commissioner of Police Hajji Ibrahim Saiga.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Saiga clearly stated that the major challenges affecting and delaying Justice for the People of Kigezi is lack of the Office of Director Public Prosecutions, ODPP in the new districts of Rubanda and Rukiga. He also noted that there is a case of Irregular Court sittings in Kanungu district where a Court sits twice a week and that there is also a challenge of Inadequate funding for High Court Sessions.
While Responding to the Regional Police Commander Justice Abodo said that she will first discuss that with the people concerned at the top management level because as far as she know Kanungu district has Two (2) Grade II Magistrates in addition to extending a Court in Rubanda saying that they use Police for Prosecution as a last resort and that her office is apprehended to keep the rule of law, transparency and accountability.
While representing the Resident Judge of Kabale High Court Justice Samuel Emokor, The Deputy Registerer of High Court Registry Catherine Nagwero, said that the Resident Judge requested for a consideration of Rubanda Grade I Court that is very busy and the Prosecution role is being handled by a Police Officer who ends prosecuting his own cases and pledged for co-operation between the two organs of Judiciary.
The Resident District Commissioner for Kabale district Godfrey Nyakahuma, while addressing the function’s Audience said that as the district, they have already secured Land premises for Courts’ establishment in Ndorwa East and West Counties respectively as means of easing service delivery to the people of Kabale district after expressing his concern over People travelling from Katuna at the boarder of Uganda and Rwanda to come and seek Justice at Makanga Hill.
