St. Mary’s College Rushoroza Old Students to Complete the School’s Storeyed Building.
Old boys and Girls of St. Mary’s College Rushoroza located on Rushoroza Hill, home to Rt Rev Callistus Rubaramira the Bishop Kabale Diocese have firmly committed to supporting the completion of the Storeyed building, which will house the school’s new dining hall and offices.
The Kabale district local government leaders led by the RDC handed over a partial portion of the work last month which was 40% complete and was funded by a 300 million Ugandan shilling grant from the Ministry of Education and Sports under the U-Gift program.

The project aimed to improve the school’s infrastructure and environment for the students,when completed, will replace its old dining hall with a more modern building which will accommodate both dining and office spaces.
According to the School Headteacher, Mr. Christopher Monday, the important project is expected to be completed by the middle of the first term in 2025.Monday further reiterates that the old students have rallied together to ensure that the development continues smoothly, with the goal of replacing the outdated infrastructure and providing a more modern, functional space for the students and staff.
He added that the progress of the new Stoleyed building stands at 40%, with the ground floor nearing completion. Monday lauded government for the support particularly Mama Janet Museveni who heads the ministry of education and Sports. “Despite the government’s allocation of 300 million shillings, we are still along way to the completion of our project, but we wholly thank our Mama, Janet Museveni for her usual support, and we are optimistic that she will support us as usual ” Monday said.
Dr. Flavian Zeija Principal Judge, a former student of St. Mary’s College and current patron, along with Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, on 16th March, 2023, initiated a drive to raise funds for the project, contributing handsomely towards the school project.
Principal Judge also introduced the “Principal Judge Award,” which will recognize the best male and female students each year, further strengthening his commitment to the school that shaped his leadership.“Am always proud to associate myself with this school where I spent my youthful years serving as deputy head prefect as well as Head prefect and I must sacrifice for my mother school” Dr Zeija said.
Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary of the Judiciary, emphasized that the current state of the school’s dining hall is unacceptable and urged all Old Boys (Obs) and Old Girls (Ogs) to contribute to the cause.“How can children of our generation eat from a poor dining hall? its unacceptable, I call upon OBs and Ogs of St marys College Rushoroza that its mandatory to contribute towards this project” Bigirimana stressed Other prominent former students, such as Dr. Samuel Mugasa, the Director of NAADs, and various commissioners, have also joined the efforts to support the school.
St. Mary’s College Rushoroza is known for its academic excellence, not only in the Kigezi region but across Uganda.It also attracts students from neighboring countries such as Rwanda, the DRC, and Burundi. The school recently hosted the National Ball Games II and continues to be a key educational institution in the region.
