Reckless Driving Along Kisoro-Bunagana Highway Leaves 10 Injured in Kisoro District.
A Serious accident has occured involving Motor vehicle registration number RAF 698C Toyota land cruiser V8 GXR black in color and UBE 621V TATA Bus white in color belonging to UNHCR today on the 28/09/2024 at about 5 : 10 pm in Gasave village, Nyakinama sub county Kisoro district along Kisoro Bunagana road.
The People involved in the accident were; Karase male adult, a Rwandese national a driver of the Land cruiser V8, Erick Rwandese national a passenger in the land cruiser V8, Hatekekiza Kamara Congolese an asylum seeker, Musafiri Bikou a Congolese asylum seeker, Ndashima Shinan a Congolese asylum seeker, Esiyeri Mukunda a Congolese asylum seeker, Gato kizza a Congolese asylum seeker, Bonakira Baryanguma a Congolese asylum seeker, Denise Nyirakwize a Congolese asylum seeker and, Twisinge Taburiya a Congolese asylum seeker.
The bus was being driven by Gimmei Richard Moses 50 Years old a resident of Rusiza market in southern division Kisoro municipality/ district.
It’s alleged that while the bus was from Bunagana carrying asylum seekers from Nyakabande transit center in Kisoro, on reaching Gasave village Nyakinama sub county along Kisoro Bunagana road, It met an on coming land cruiser that was driving on the right lane instead of left. The driver of the bus tried to dodge it by moving on his extreme left but even the driver of the land cruiser V8 maintained moving on his right hence colliding head on.
The scene was visited and documented, the victims were rushed to Kisoro hospital and the vehicles towed to Kisoro Central Police Station for IOV inspection.
According to the Kigezi regional Police Spokesperson Assistant Supretendant of Police Elly Maate said that, The Primary cause of the accident was reckless driving by the driver of the Land cruiser who was driving on the wrong lane.
