Commissioner Fred Bamwine from the RDC Secretariat/ACU in the Office of the President has urged the people of the Kigezi Region to engage in income-generating activities to uplift their families.

Bamwine made these remarks during the induction ceremony of Rev. Birungi Erisha as the parish priest of Kagunga Church of Uganda, Nyabirarema Archdeaconry, Diocese of Kigezi.

He emphasized that while the government has provided numerous services, many families continue to struggle with poverty due to a lack of personal income generation. He encouraged the public to utilize available resources, particularly through farming, even on small plots of land.

“Kigezi Region may have limited land, but zero-grazing is still feasible. Even owning one cow can produce up to 20 liters of milk, providing a reliable source of income,” Bamwine noted.

He also pledged to engage with the government to ensure that district production officers are well-trained and equipped to advise the people of Kigezi on how to effectively use their small land holdings to boost income.

In addition, Commissioner Fred Bamwine praised Dr. Akampumuza James Rutanga, the hopeful MP for Ndorwa East (2026-2031), describing him as a knowledgeable and visionary leader. Bamwine shared that Dr. Akampumuza had taught him during his university years and that much of the knowledge he applies today was imparted to him by Dr. Rutanga.

Dr. Akampumuza James Rutanga emphasized the importance of farming, noting that it is the backbone of Uganda’s economy. He reiterated that even with small landholdings, significant results can be achieved.

Akampumuza also expressed his gratitude to Commissioner Bamwine for encouraging people to overcome poverty by efficiently utilizing small plots of land. He added that maximizing available space can lead to even greater results.
