Banyankore Tribe Declared Winners of the 2024 UCU, BBUC Cultural Gala Competitions.
Banyankore tribe emerged as winners of the 2024 Uganda Christian University, UCU Bishop Barham University College, Kabale, BBUC Cultural Gala meant to to celebrate the beautiful diversity of the African Culture in Uganda.
The Cultural Gala which took place on Saturday 19th October, 2024 at the Campus premises on Rugarama Hill in Northern Division Kabale Municipality, had three competitors that is Bakiga, Banyankore and Bafumbira with Baganda and Bakonjo marked absent in this Year’s Cultural Gala Edition and the competitions started at 2 pm in the Afternoon.
The participants competited in seven (7) items including Cultural dance, office wear, Talent show, Folksong, Modern wear,Skit or composition games and Cultural wear.
In Cultural dance, posture or presentation, Timing and basic rhythm, Body lines, Composition plus Character and personality were considered for awarding of points while in Office wear Posture, Smartness, Confidence, Appearance and Facial Expression were considered too for awarding of points.
In Talent show, they considered Creativity or motivation, Preparation, Overall impression, Interpretation and Presentation while in Folksong Maintenance of posture or appearance, Soloist presentation, Audibility, Facial Expression or costumes and props and interpretation were being considered and in Modern wear they considered Unique brand identity, Unique skilling points, Paying attention, Skills or creativity and confidence.
More so in Skits or composition games, Originality of voices, interpretation and Uniformity, Meaning and Audibility, Facial Expression and Organization were being considered where as in Cultural wear they considered Organization, Originality, Use of the stage, Presentation on and off the stage and Confidence.
According to the results declared by the Judges and Adjucators Banyankore emerged as winners of the day with a total number of points of 92 through maximizing their scores in the office wear, Cultural dance, Cultural wear, Folksong and Talent show with 15 in each of those items and Bakiga became the second with a total of 91 Points and Bafumbira the last with a total of 87 Points.
According to Viola Nahabwe who was one of the Day’s Judge appreciated the fact that students gave time to the Cultural Gala in rehearsing and preparing for it through bringing out interesting and educative content in their performances for example the item of Fashion show item, all of them appeared Innovative and creative and in Cultural wear, Culture was clearly described and reflected in its harrodness and how they look forward to maintain it.
Addressing the Audience too The Academic Registerer of UCU, BBUC Dr. Joy Asiimwe Turyamwijuka said that Culture can be in materials such as spears and baskets, languages both traditionally and modern in the way people live and the environment they live in and that creativity such as dressing code shows one’s values, economic status, profession and ability, And that Culture is beautiful and diverse and also called upon them to be vigilant with the modern culture which is overtaking the traditional culture because it lacks an element of decency as it is in the African Culture.
