Campaigns for the Kisoro District Woman MP seat under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) were paused just days after they began, as President Yoweri Museveni summoned all 13 candidates to Kampala. Among those vying for the party’s endorsement are Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, Sylvia Dushime Agaba, and Winfred Faith Igiraneze.

The campaigns, which launched on Tuesday, were suspended Friday following the president’s intervention. Ramathan Ndikuyeze, the NRM vice chairperson for Kisoro, confirmed the pause but did not reveal further details about the meeting.

Despite the interruption, Ndikuyeze assured the public that campaigning will resume after the meeting, with October 25, 2024, set for the party’s flag bearer election and November 14, 2024, for the by-election. The seat fell vacant after the passing of former MP Mateke Nyirabashitsi.
