FIFA Certifies Nakivubo Stadium: Uganda’s New Hub for Global Football Matches

In a major boost for Ugandan football, FIFA has officially certified Hamz Stadium Nakivubo War Memorial to host local and international matches. The stadium’s newly installed Duofilament Mono artificial turf has been approved under the prestigious “FIFA Quality Programme for Football Turf” standard.

The announcement, made by businessman Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, on Monday, October 7, follows FIFA’s certification of the turf on Friday, October 4. The installation, carried out by the globally recognized company Nurteks Hali San.ve Tic. A.S, underwent extensive testing before receiving FIFA’s stamp of approval.

The certification, valid until October 3, 2027, marks a significant milestone for both Nakivubo Stadium and Ugandan football, positioning the venue as a key site for high-caliber matches. Three Uganda Premier League clubs have already expressed interest in using the stadium as their home ground for the 2024/25 season, as the league progresses through its early stages.

FIFA’s endorsement not only elevates Nakivubo Stadium’s status but also enhances Uganda’s prospects in the global football arena, opening doors for international teams to compete in Kampala. Football fans can look forward to improved playing conditions and thrilling matches in the years ahead.
