Teachers in Kabale District Celebrate National Teachers Amidst Delayed Salaries.

The Kabale District Education Officer, Moses Bwengye Tumwijukye has appealed to teachers to be patient with their delayed salaries because the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports is working tirelessly to cater for their salaries.

DEO Tumwijukye made the appeal today at Kirigime Guest House in Kirigime Ward Central Division Kabale Municipality during the celebration of National Teachers’ Day by teachers Under the Supervision of Kabale District Local Government. He clarified that delay by the Government to pay teachers’ salaries was as a result of the Payroll audit for all public servants vi-sa-vi the budget they have, and increment of Salaries for Science professionals country wide but the salary and wage budget for Kabale District has never been enhanced saying that they are still using the previous budget.

He further explained that Money for Salaries is released by the Government on a quarterly basis emphasizing that there is always wage shortfalls in the third month of the quarter and that’s why some civil servants don’t get their salaries but said that the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports is working tirelessly to address that challenge.

Addressing Teachers The Kabale District  Uganda National Teachers’ Union Chairperson Amos Musiimenta urged the Government to increase fundingof Public Education through filling teacher gaps in schools by recruiting more qualified teachers to help on reducing work load the available teachers are carrying, boosting teacher remuneration by enhancing their salaries in the Financial Year 2025-25, Giving Financial support to Teachers’  Savings and and Credit Cooperation Organizations, availing of learning and teaching resources in the required quality and quantity and establishment of school and institution Infrastructures for accommodating teachers.

The Teachers’ Day celebrations were also braced by the Kabale Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Catherine Atwakyire Ndamira through her Political Assistant Alex, And asked Teachers to love and cherish their job because it’s not only their job but also a calling from God. She further urged them to start up small home based projects such as Piggery which will enable them earn side incomes to top up their earnings and be able to sustain their family needs and demands.

The Theme for this Year’s celebration is ” Valuing Teacher voices Towards a new Social contract for Education.” which highlights the need to value the knowledge, voice and participation of teachers in decision making processes in Education.
