Uganda’s National Disability Sports Gala Shines a Spotlight on Talent in Kabale District.

The 9th edition of the annual National Disability Sports Gala, organized by the Uganda Paralympic Committee, kicked off at Kigezi High School primary in Kabale with an inspiring opening ceremony aimed at breaking barriers and building champions. Local dignitaries and athletes gathered to celebrate the incredible abilities of individuals with disabilities, showcasing their talents across various sports, including football and athletics.

Kabale’s Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Godfrey Nyakahuma, addressed attendees, emphasizing the significance of the event. He highlighted that the gala demonstrates the remarkable capabilities of disabled athletes, proving that they can excel in sports. Nyakahuma also acknowledged the role of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government in supporting individuals with disabilities, assuring participants of their safety and well-being throughout the event.

Mpimbi Bumali, President of the Uganda Paralympic Committee, expressed his gratitude to the athletes for their participation. He underscored the gala’s purpose: to identify and nurture talent among individuals with disabilities and to promote inclusivity in sports. Bumali extended his appreciation to the Kigezi region and participants from other areas, celebrating their commitment to showcasing their skills and determination.

The National Disability Sports Gala not only highlights the athletic prowess of participants but also fosters a sense of community and support. As the event unfolds, it aims to inspire more individuals with disabilities to engage in sports, encouraging them to break through societal barriers and pursue their passions with confidence.
