Police in Kabale Municipality has Arrested five (5) Suspects over Street Lights Vandalization.
The territorial police in Kabale have arrested five suspects allegedly for a number of cases in relation to street lights solar panels within Kabale municipality.
The suspects are; Gerevazio Ampaire alias mukiga 18 years old, a herdsman, resident of Kigongi cell Central Division Kabale municipality, Martin Muhereza a male aged 28, businessman resident of Hamurwa Rubanda district. Esera Mirembe aged 40 years old, resident of Muruhita village Rubanda district. Gerevazio Habomugisha Gerevazio a male aged 40 years old, resident of Hamurwa village Rubanda district and Edita Arinaitwe aged 22 years old, business woman, resident of Kakore village Rubanda district.
Its alleged that, between the month of July and September 2024 at the areas of Makanga cell, Rwakaraba cell, Rushoroza and Nyabikoni, within the night hours, in Kabale Municipality, these suspects conspired together and maliciously damaged street lights valued at 225,750,000/= the property of Government of Uganda, specifically for Kabale Municipality.
The suspects have been doing this on several occasions and after the criminal acts, they go and sell the items in Rubanda district, to one Nuwamanya still at large the husband to Arinaitwe Edita one of those in custody.
The suspects were arrested through intelligence tip off and were netted from their hideout while others went on run. During the arrest and search that was conducted that led to the recovery of two solar batteries from Esera Mirembe and Mushwaza respectively .
This vice has been on in Kabale Municipality and number of cases have since been registered at Kabale police station where inquiries are still at hand and the registered cases include; conspiracy to commit a felony, Malicious Damage, Theft and Possession of breaking implements under Kabale CRB 674/2024.
According to Kigezi regional Police spokesperson Assistant Supretendant of Police Elly Maate confirmed that, The scenes of crime have been visited led by the police, municipal officials and local leaders. The five suspects in police custody and efforts to identify and arrest others are still on going. as Inquiries are still at hand.
