A Catholic Centered Teaching University, St. Ignatius (IGUKA) ready and set to be Inaugurated this Saturday.
A Catholic Centered teaching University, St. Ignatius University ready and set to be Inaugurated this Saturday 24th August, 2024 with the aim of Inspiring, Empowering and Transforming the African Society through provision of Universal Education based on hands on skills and Projects.
This was revealed by the Member of the University Council who doubles as the Vicar General for Kabale Diocese Msgr. John Vianney Sunday today during a Press conference at the University Premises in Rushoroza Cell Southern Division Kabale Municipality. He explained that it’s the right of the Catholic Church to start Institutions at all levels and Educate the People of God as it’s mandated in the Gospel of Mathew 28: 19-20 And it’s done in an integral manner based on three principles that is; God first above everything we do, Moral intergrity or formation and Intellectual development for solving societal underlying problems.
Msgr. Sunday further explained that it’s focused on solving the challenges encountered by the people in our societies such as abstract poverty through emphasizing teaching of courses that inculcate hands on projects to students so that after their studies these students be in position to transform their lives and be examplary to the society on how to use their meagre resources in order to produce more and bring financial transformation among people through teaching them how to manage, mobilize and use resources for empowering their societies.
According to the Vice Chancellor of St. Ignatius University Rev. Fr. Associate Professor Maximilliano Ngabirano stated that the aim for starting up this University is that not everyone who goes to the University attains Education, As Kabale Diocese they are focusing on narrowing down high costs incurred while acquiring high quality Education on top of Kigezi being an over populated region with depleted soils that are less productive amidst increasing high levels of Poverty.
He further explained that Financial literacy and Transformation is what the University will be looking forward to achieve in future following it’s inauguration on Saturday 24th August, 2024. He clarified that this will solve the challenge of the Youths going to look for jobs in the Arab countries through focusing on developing self employers not Job opportunity seekers.
Associate Professor Ngabirano also explained that the University has a total enrollment of 170 students apparently following it’s acquisition of operation license as a Private University on 31st August, 2023 and it opened for it’s first semester on 8th January, 2024. The University currently has the following accredited programs; Bachelor’s of Business Administration, Bachelor’s of Tourism Heritage and Leisure Management, Diploma in Agriculture, Diploma in Tourism and Leisure Management, Certificate in Medical records and Health Informatics, Diploma in Science Laboratory technology, Certificate in Science Laboratory technology and UBTEB Vocational courses in Business, Agriculture and Tourism.
The University Administrators led by the Vice Chancellor Associate Professor Ngabirano also to Journalists that the University receives all students regardless of their religion and lies ethics as the foundation of their teaching in every Course as the basis of fighting corruption which is destroying the country amidst embracing advanced technology in this modern era.
The Official Inauguration ceremony of the University will have The Ordinary Bishop of Kabale Catholic Diocese Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira installed as the first Chancellor of the University and Rev. Fr. Associate Professor Maximilliano Ngabiranona the first Vice Chancellor respectively. It will be preseided over by Her Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda Retired Maj. Gen. Jessica Alupo starting with the sacrifice of Mass led by Bishop Rubaramira.
